No, they are not the same product. They are both soluble in water, but the Derwent Inktense pencils and the Derwent watercolor pencils are different. The Inktense pencils are formulated differently. The colors are more intense and vibrant than the watercolor pencils. Also, once the areas colored with Inktense pencils are dry, the color will not run when the area is re-wetted.

HOWEVER, dry areas that were colored with watercolor pencil will become soluble again if that area is re-wetted and they will run, just like a watercolor painting will...


You definitely want to get the ones labelled INkTENSE if you want to use them on your quilts. Especially if the quilts will be washed.
