What a huge difference when somebody says it with a smile and really means it - it can make your whole day!
This isn't about pet peeves but what I don't want to hear and they persist in doing it is call me cute little pet names when they don't even know me. Sweetheart Dearie Love Honey. I tell them you don't know me don't call me your Honey. I'm not your honey! My mom and I "share" this view with people when possible. It is disrespectful to call me a pet name when you are a stranger to me. especially if the clerk is a teenager and my mom is 77 and I am 54! It is a bad habit that should be stopped. I don't have any idea why they do it. Using Maam or nothing at all would be better. A lot of them just ignore me and do it anyway which is just plain rude.
