Years ago I had just started dating my husband. He was raised Catholic and I was raised Protestant. We went to our friend's wedding. I had never been to a Catholic service. There came a point in the ceremony where the priest instructed everyone to greet their neighbor with the "sign of peace," which means to shake the hands of those closest to you and offer goodwill by saying, "peace be with you" and they respond by saying, " and also with you." (The response has since been changed to "and also with your spirit.") Since I had never been to a Catholic mass, I was unfamiliar with their rituals. When the priest asked everyone to give the sign of peace, I didn't quite hear what he said. I panicked until I realized what they were doing. I had been to revivals growing up, and during those services, the congregation would turn to their neighbors and greet them. So I turned to my neighbors and said, "Pleased to meet you." My Catholic friends all grinned when I said it.
