I did it. I had figured out how to put in those inserts in the original thread.
But if you put your small inserts right to the bottom of the seam, you won't have to trim. There is no reason to leave that quarter inch free on the petals. That would save you a little time. Or fabric! You could cut the petals one quarter inch shorter. Less bulk.
