My husband and I both have several quilts that were pieced by our grandmothers. All are scrappy, using simple blocks, and each is loved. My favorite scraps are the plaid and striped shirting fabrics from the 40s and 50s.
I love the idea posted above of making a scrappy quilt block pattern from the first letter of the child's name. To me, that is more timeless than the whole name.
