When I first moved to the UK from South Africa, I had no idea that to lock some doors you had to lift the handle past it's horizontal position and then NOT push it back down again. Hubby and I were buying coffee at a packed Starbucks on a Saturday morning and I needed to use the restroom. I was not aware there were more restrooms upstairs and thought the only one was the one for people with disabilities on the ground floor, next to the till (and the long queue) so I went in and 'locked' the door. As you know, these restrooms are large and the doors open outwards to accommodate wheel chairs. So unfortunately for me, when another customer tried the door to use the restroom, it opened and revealed me in all my glory with my trousers around my ankles, sitting on the toilet. I could not reach the door to pull it closed so just sat there and squealed while the Starbucks customers stared in astonishment! You have no idea how much courage I had to find to walk out of that restroom and past the queue! I cringe to this day
