I remember those stiff denim jeans that had to be washed several times - back in an old Maytag wringer washing machine - before they were soft enough to wear.
They always had to be washed with dark blues or separately because they never quit losing color.
Can you imagine working in the factories where the fabric was woven and the jeans sewn?
