I will be watching the responses to this thread. My little kitchen table is very dear to me (one of the few things I requested from my grandmother's "estate"). It is oak, and has painted decorations applied by my mother when I was a toddler. I have a roommate who means well, but it is just a matter of time before he puts something on it that he should not...possibly a hot pan. I was thinking about an edge-to-edge table topper, with maybe two layers of Insulbrite. I wonder if that would be enough.
