Not sure I'm understanding what you're describing, but a piano key border popped in my brain, with the keys being different lengths. But then I also thought of doing it like with turned rectangles of different lengths, then added to the quilt kindof like you'd add prairie points. IDK, but it sounds intriguing. Love you're quilt.
