ANd I have a 401a. When I got it, I put it through a test drive with a Layer slice (10"x10") of denim. I folded it over and over and over, it sewed through 6 layers. Next morning DH used it to mend one of his denim jackets. Got it at an estate sale and worth every penny. That 401 is 1958.

None of my older singers are "tired". I have a Singer 403a which is a heavier duty machine, and one I would recommend.
