I use the white cotton sheeting that is 118" wide. Previously, I bought it at Hancock Fabrics, which is now out of business. It is similar to this:

The fabric is a tighter weave and feels softer to the hand that most quilting cottons. If you are hand quilting, you probably won't like it. I use it on my long arm all the time. I'd just as soon not piece the back unless it's absolutely a have to situation.
