I was wondering if they were the cotton ones with the 6 segments. If so, could you carefully clip the threads between the segments up to the button on top, spread it flat to make a flower shape and they machine applique the edges down to a background fabric? The segment sections would all already have the edges turned under and of course you would need to remove and discard the hat visor part.
