I use Purple tip Janome needles all the time but I'm sewing a combination of fabrics (some stretch) that tend to lead to skipped stitches and the purple tip needles are wonderful for that. They are a ball point needle and I don't think I'd use them if I was piecing. I only wish I had time to get back to quilting....sigh
