Watch for those books to go on sale on their website--about every 2-3 months they seem to run a sale and they will drop them down to $20/each. I don't have the applique one but if you plan to draw your own applique designs I think from what a friend said, it would be really helpful.
Probably one feature that has paid for the program for me is the ability to design a quilt with different size blocks--which I use all the time for t-shirt quilts. Just don't color the final design and you leave with the grid and you can print it and actually use the grid to figure your cutting sizes.
