Your quilt is absolutely stunning and lent itself well to the QAYG method. I have done that a couple of times and really enjoyed the freedom of quilting in the smaller spaces. I liked the trade off. Yes, it was a bit time consuming to do the hand work but it was a great trade off on not having to wrestle the quilt in the small harp space. I definitely think the method has its place in techniques to know.
