I do not hand quilt, so I can't help with the thread or the quilting part. But I love the purple and the crocheted lace is fabulous!! What treasure this will be. The corner stones are truly unique.
I love Sunbonnet Sue. I have a SBS top that my great grandmother made for me in the middle 50's. Sue in different colors and sashed in pastel yellow batiste. I had it in my cedar chest for years and finally found a yellow close enough in color to match the sashing. Since it was machine stitched with hand embroidered - I did decorative machine quilting in the corners of the sashing. and bound it in yellow gingham and love it. My quilting group wanted me to put it in our Fall Fair as an antique, but I am afraid something would happen to it so chose not to do so.
