Default Loving Lucy

Our Guild's challenge this year was to draw two crayons from a bag without looking and then design a something using those two colors. At least 25% had to be of each color. The remaining 50% could be any color. I drew blue and white crayons. I made this cover for my machine. I had never done wool applique before so that was my focus. I looked at a lot of pictures in designing this but was especially inspired by Gretchen Gibbons work and this is an adaptation of this. The ends of the cover are Lucy Boston blocks. I named it Loving Lucy after my mother whose name was Lucy. She taught me how to make teeny tiny evenly spaced stitches. It is also in honor of Lucy Boston and her designs of English Paper Piecing. In addition to the wool I also used cotton and silk from ties in the appliques along with lots of beads. I is all done by hand (piecing, applique, assembly and quilting) with the exception of putting on the pockets on the back where I wanted some strength in the stitching.
