I lay my pieces out on the ping pong table. Tape the back down it doesn't move add the batting and finally the top. I then use the curved saftety pins to baste every 3-4 inches. I sit in a rolling typing chair and work as far as I can reach. Then I untape the back and roll the already basted quilt toward me until I can reach another area that needs basting. If you want to leave a little space under the quilt to add basting you can slide a cake cooling rack underneath to hold the fabrics up off of the table. They actually make a plastic grid like gadget for that purpose that I have seen for sale at big quilt shows. The cooling rack works just as well. I am lucky enough to have the ping pong table but any large table would work.
