It does take practice, but jump in with both feet...........afterall it is just fabric. The large throat means I no longer have to struggle to get the quilt through the throat and still maintain even stitches. No more back and neck problems either as it just glides across the table. I, too, have the slider and stitch regulator which I love. It took me awhile to get used to the SR but I made myself use it. (Some people complain that the noise is distacting as the machine tries to keep up with your hands.) Definitely try one out at the dealer first, but after that first try I was sold.
