I think batiks are actually a better choice for paper piecing than regular quilting cottons, because on nearly all batiks, the back is indistinguishable from the front. One of the more common mistakes that beginning paper-piecers make is cutting the fabric upside down.

If you're taking the class from a certified JN teacher, you'll do just fine. Have fun!!
