Watson .... I think you can simplify the frustration of which block goes where.
There are two different blocks in the quilt you have referred us to.
Each is made of four smaller blocks that QuiltnNan drew, but two different layouts.
Make a stack of each block style and then laying them out will be simplified dramatically!!

The only concern I would have is whether the angle that is in the diagram is the angle you would need/want to get the effects when they are pieced together in the quilt. Before I would start with fabric, I think I would do some paper practice blocks .... or play with them on the computer to check that angle.

And too, the angle may be bang on!
