My first thought would be to sew a smallish circle of fusible interfacing, turn it to the inside and fuse to the backing. I think I would prefer this to just turning under the edge and ironing. It might make for a cleaner edge. This would also work if you wanted the inner edge to have a design to it - a slight scallop, perhaps a triangle (sunbeam look).
