I think what you are saying is that you've joined them into blocks, which are hexagons. the only way I know of to join these are to continue with the Y seams. Lay the blocks out in the order you like. you should be able to determine rows going either horizontally or on an angle. These rows should have straight edges touching each other. Join these seams, which will make rows with jagged edges. Join the rows with y seams.
