I have one similar to this but it is permanently attached tothe end of the ironing board in front of the metal plate that holds the iron.

I have not used it much as the cord on my iron is not long enough to go to the other end of the board and was sometimes getting caught up in the long wire. It can be useful when pressing for applique work when staying close to the wide edge of the board.
