Default Calling puff/biscuit quilt experts

I want to make a puff quilt for my granddaughter and have looked at various tutorials. I am undecided about size of squares. Do you prefer to make the blocks one inch different in size, or one-half inch? I am thinking about 4 1/2 inch foundations squares but can't decide whether to make the top squares 5 or 5 1/2 inches. I am cutting from fabric (not using pre-cut squares).

I don't want the finished squares to be overstuffed or the quilt to be too heavy, so I'm going to fill lightly with fiberfill.

Thanks for suggestions!
