I, too, just made my own. Got out all the things I thought I would want to take somewhere and started playing. I did not make hard sides. I found some large scraps of both fabric and batting and quilted the whole thing first then added pockets after placing the various items on top of my quilted piece. Added a couple of handles to the top edge. I have not used it often as I don't take many classes or go to regular sewing groups but it does work well for me. So far, I've not needed anything that I didn't include with my initial design. Perhaps if I used it more it would need some re-working but so far, so good.
