Have you tried to look up prayer shawls so that you can get an idea for a quilted one? I believe the ones I've seen have not had any batt so the recipient didn't get to warm since it's used over the clothed shoulders. Not to sound rude by making the comparison but the dimensions are similar to a long table topper or bed runner (don't know if that is the correct term but they're placed at the foot of the bed).
