I had one in my sewing odds and ends box. Finally used it when I got a new machine, and the 1/4 seam line was oddly placed. I used the little tool to determine the right needle position to get that scant 1/4 in. seam. You can also use a lined index card to verify your seam. The lines are exactly 1/4 in. apart.
