I do not like 505 spray- it does not hold well for me at all. Had the same problem you did. Try the Sullivans spray (pink can) I do about 20 quilts a year and this is the only one that really works for me. It will hold the back and top in place and not gum up your machine. Make sure all is tight (not stretched) when you sandwich. Good luck - don't give up.
