If you are going to do straight stitching and the occasional FMQ, you can't go wrong with the Juki. It's a no nonsense mechanical machine, with a 9 in. x 6 in. harp. Much less expensive than the Bernina. I've had mine for 3 years, and have done many, many quilts on it.

But if your projects will involve decorative stitches, or if you sew garments with buttonholes, if you need zig-zag stitches, etc., the Bernina will do all that for you + it has all the quilting functions. It's computerized and price is higher than the Juki.
