You have not said how much you have or the fiber content.
While I like the suggestion from flikkem, I have an alternative. If, as I suspect, it is wool, I would begin by washing it to felt it, then use simple downloaded coloring pages as patterns to make raw edge applique critters to put on plain background(s) Alternately, I have made both a very large Sun Bonnet Sue or a teddy bear, to make a single whole quilt image, with some embellishment from other fabrics, making a throw or cot sized quilt. I cut my patterns from a single sheet of newspaper, which took a couple of tries.

My fabric, was obviously quite different. I pre-quilted before adding Sue
