Edited to add: In looking at the pictures, you can make almost any pattern. I would suggest you think about a controlled scrappy because you won't have that much fabric from each shirt.

Then I searched "how to cut up a man's shirts for fabric" These Youtube videos seem to be a good way to learn about preparing the shirts & more.
