For me it would break up the flow and integrity of the look of the quilt. I have made some of Judy Martin's log cabin patterns and the beauty of them comes from the use of different subtle shades of fabrics which you wouldn't get with a whole piece of fabric. Additionally, the seams add to the texture and beauty of the quilt. Her patterns are not a quick get it done type of process which I like because I enjoy the journey more than getting it done.
