As to Masonic images, you want to look for a compass and square, the letter G, a level, trowel, gavel, and plumb. Some cool quilts are here:

I wish I could have made one of these quilts for my dad before he passed. I would have gone with applique or paper piecing. I did make a T-Shirt quilt for my mom as a memorial quilt and used his Shriner's shirts. He was on clown patrol and got a new one every year. There were tons in his closet!
