here is what the lift looks like
and with the machine lowered
to lower, you lift up the extension, and pull up on the black part to the far left, that releases the catch and you can lower it. To raise, you pull up the machine until the catch engages.
IIRC, it says "lift here" on the part you are suppose to lift up on.
