Batting is not used in wool appliqué. Using wool pennies as an example, begin by appliquing the top piece to the middle piece, then appliqué that unit to the bottom piece. All the layers takes the place of batting. I use a household stapler to hold prices in place. Once staple is gently removed it leaves no mark. As a wool dyer and worker, my preference is for 100% wool. Shop thrifts shops for wool skirts ( best dollar wise) and you can use unsweetened Koolade to dye new colors. I LOVE working with wools!
