What I have done is to roll the quilt from both ends with the larger roll on the right hand side. Start at 1 side & quilt (meander) across, sew to the right & then quilt another section across the quilt. When you get to the end of that roll, flip the quilt & start again. I have just done meander & it looks fine. My quilts are comfort quilts & people think they look great at craft shows. Don't over think it.
I always get myself in trouble when I do that.
