Absolutely audition it. Open it wide and put the 4" on one side and the 4 1/2" on the other side. Leave it for awhile. Notice that every time you walk into the room, which side looks better to you. One will make itself known to you. As 'zen' or 'hippie-like' as that sounds, it is so true with quilts, they will tell you what works.
