I am originally from Upstate Central NY. I moved from West Central Missouri in 2015. I know there are several really good quilt stores in Wichita, and a great quilt show in the spring time. Besides being close to KC, you are also close to Tulsa OK and there is also some great shops there. The bad part is you will not see many mountains there but they do get snow, like like ADKs.
