This is what I figured out. It's like a log cabin. You start with the two small pieces on the biggest piece. Build this by adding a piece to the bottom, one on each side, one on the bottom, one on the left side and 2 on the right side. Then the edge strip across the bottom is a strip and a square sewn at an angle and cut off to make the point.
Then the next part is the square on the top left beginning with 2 small squares, one that matches the first added strip on the beginning square. Then add a piece across the top and a strip on the left to match the second strip on the bottom square. Then 2 strips across the top. This smaller one is finished with the pointed strip on the right. Then the 4 3/4" square with the pointed strip is added to the bottom is sewn to the top square, then both of these match up with the bottom square and the last pointed strip is added on the left to the completed square. Each square is joined by a 2 " strip. 11" squares of the solid are cut diagonally to make the ends for the blocks to be set on point. The quilt is squared up and add the piano key border. I quilted it then cut the scalloped edges and added the binding.
I used 2 inch strips. The square is 4 3/4" and the finished block is trimmed to 11".
