Unless we intend it to be for a young one 12 to 15, we usually make them about 40 by 45. The older children we make 48 x 52 but I don't think there is a set size. If you are interested in doing some of these quilts, I would contact my local Sheriff's Department and see if they have a preference. It really gives you a warm feeling inside when you are doing these. I recently had 20 nine patch squares that were made by someone and they never were used. They were sewn "wonky" and I didn't want to take them all apart and redo them. I couldn't see throwing them away. I put triangles on all four sides and put them together. Put a border on it and it turned out to look great for a donation quilt. Like I said, there aren't any quilt inspectors around when a child is scared and in need of comfort. We love this project.
