This is true. Also, pinning from the left helps keep the pieces in place better than from the right, especially if you sew over pins like I do. (I know, I hear many of you gasping at this). I'm left handed and when I learned to sew, I watched my mom and copied what she did, only I used my left hand so I pinned backwards from how she did it.
