Did you start with an 11" muslin and batting, then stitch, flip, quilt and repeat stitch, flip, and quilt. when 11" covered, trim block square to 10.5", and cut on diagonal? I started out with a 12-1/2" square of muslin. Drew a line across corners and started cutting scraps. No special measure of the scraps, just what I thought would look good. I have all my scraps in large plastic bags by color....green, blue, yellow, gold,brown, pink & purple. I just pull a few scraps out and cut them 1" or 3/4" or maybe even 1-3/4" - it is all just what I think would go good together. I love to make scrap string quilts but the pile never seems to dwindle.
