I use the method klswift does. My strips are 2 1/2' and I sew them together with a straight seam instead of the 45 degree angle. I do my jelly rolls the same way. I just started using a 3/8" seam and I think I'll be doing it that way now. I do use a decorative stitch but never thought of variegated thread. Thanks for the suggestion, klswift.
