Don't know if this will work but it may be worth checking out...Harbor Freight sells small laser pointers. They are generally used as saw guides as shown in the photo attached. They attach to the drill with magnets. I bought one to use as a 1/4" guide on my Brother Innovis 1250D but there's no metal on the machine! Shot myself in the foot. But if you have metal this might work for you. Regular price is $5.99 but they are seasonally on sale. Good luck.
