I make bias binding all the time and always cut it 2.5 inches wide using piraterogers.com tutorial. Using 28" WOF will make about 440" - 460" inches of binding depending on the width of the fabric. This is the easiest most straight forward method for making bias binding and doesn't waste fabric as you don't start with a square. A yard and a quarter of fabric would make you enough bias binding for one large King sized quilt and a single sized one too!
