so 6 strips @ 2 1/2" width should be 15". I would go with 7 strips, just in case of error and seam allowances for joining them - (17 1/2", only 1/2 yd.)
wouldn't that be for binding made on the width of grain and not bias? I always have trouble figuring the amount for bias binding, too--so you may be right on this.
