I think the 24-hour clock makes more sense because then I know that 12:00 is in the middle of day time (in many parts of the world) and 24:00 is in the middle of the night (in most parts of the world).

yes. greenwich mean time ..center of global timekeeping. my chat friends in northeast england & southwest holland are 9 hrs ahead of my pacific time zone. my chat friend east of moscow is 11 hrs ahead of my pacific time zone. we start getting confused keeping straight the time in new zealand. yup ..have chat friend there too
