I recently 'rescued' an old hexagon quilt being used as movers' wrap. Hundred 100% hand stitched, very bold colors, even some fussy cut patches and in damaged areas I could see the seams were 5/8 inch. Worked for that quilt! Best tradition of quilting, IMHO, is using what you have--great seeing the evolution of iffy to to great back.
