I have always cut to length and really tried to get every log sewn straight but always had some go off.
I bought the creative grid log cabin ruler and now every log is perfect and you don't have to cut the log fabric to size, you can use any size as long as it cover the log placement and it is cut on one side with a rotary cutter to get one straight edge.
I now enjoy making this pattern and it is perfect every time..
